Phillip Daniel
PHILLIP DANIEL, Ph.D.
About Me
Phillip is an alumnus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's (MIT) Mechanical Engineering department (S.B. '13, S.M. '15. Ph.D. ‘21). During his Ph.D., he researched the design of algorithms to augment human locomotion with extra robotic limbs, and has expertise in Robotics, Mechatronics, and Control Theory. His minor was in engineering leadership, as he believes that effective communication is as important to productivity as analytical rigor.
He now works fulltime at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, and consults with Boston area start-ups. He has worked at two Pre-IPO firms, Markforged (IPO 2021) and Gencores, where he has developed and built custom, electro-mechanical manufacturing equipment. Phillip also helped to build the engineering teams at these firms through technical interviews and compensation negotiations.

He has mentored MIT students as an instructor, resident adviser, and research mentor. He has also mentored underrepresented minority (URM) students through programs like MIT’s Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program, MIT’s Summer Research Program, and MIT’s Momentum program.

His passion is to build the teams and devices that enable innovation. He is excited to put his expertise to work to solve interesting problems, and looks forward to mentoring other engineers along the way.
